Hill Road Streetscape
and Sidewalk Improvements
As part of an on-going development process for the downtown area of Pickerington,
W.E. Stilson Consulting Group was retained by the City to develop plans
for the reconstruction of Hill Road (SR256). This portion of the
work (Phase II) was an overall renovation of the entire Old Village area. The
work included the intersection of Hill Road and Columbus Street where left-turn
lanes were added and the existing flashing stop control was replaced with
a fully actuated state-of-the-art traffic signal installation.
The remaining work included eliminating the existing ditch section of road
and the construction of a new curb section. The curb section included
an enclosed drainage system to relieve roadway drainage. The roadway
section included brick pavers outside of the curb with a three-feet tree
lawn and five-feet sidewalks on both sides.
The reconstruction also included street lighting. The street lighting
was designed to look similar to old gas powered streetlights that had once
illuminated some of the streets in the Old Village. Pictures from
the period were used to simulate the fixtures at that time. The lamps
were then manufactured and installed on ornamental poles.
